Can you have a skylight or roof window installed on a metal roof? Yes! Metal roofs require a bit more attention to the flashing and they cannot be flush-mounted (only curb-mounted). If you have a metal roof already and are looking to add a skylight, the work will be more labor intensive than on a conventional roof.
If you’re reroofing a house with skylights more than 10 years old, it’s recommended to replace the skylight at the same time. Older skylights can be prone to failure, and it just doesn’t make sense to install a metal roof with a lifespan of 50+ years only to find you need to desconstruct much of it to replace a skylight.
